I like this song by Hazakim.

[link]

A rather humbling song adapted from the book of Job.  Really puts humanity in perspective.

To the people who think they're smarter than God =D

(And please, no quarreling.  You are allowed to like/dislike, agree/disagree, but I know where God stands).

FYI, here's their Mysapce [link]

Hmm, on a solemn note, I guess sort of a post review. After listening to their music further and reading about em on their sites, I've come to realize they aren't Christian at all, but Messianic Jews, hence their heavy influence in OT side of Scripture. While I still commend some of their music for being crisp in biblical reference, I can definitely see their focus on Judaism becoming a strong point. Just wanted to give that out as a forewarning to those listening or planning too.

A Messianic Jew is simply a Christian who has strong Jewish roots and culture; Jews who believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah.

My Bible study leaders back at college were Messianic Jews and the Gospel remained unchanged. They never imposed anything on me, I actually like celebrating feasts like Passover with them. It cements the old and new testament together and how Jesus fulfilled all those prophecies. My walk with God has become more enriched and I've experienced a broader range of fellowship thanks to them--that there is no Jew or Gentile, male, female, black or white, in Christ.

Your last statement is exactly true as the Bible says; Jew, Gentile, male, female, black, white, "scythian, barbarian or Greek", all in Christ, because they all fall under the umbrella of His bride, the body of the Church. It is that which such titles are wiped away and replaced with the wonderful unity of the Christian Church in its entirety.

What Messianic Jews, unfortunately, wish to do is believe Jesus is the Messiah, but do not wish to enjoin themselves with the Church, but rather continue embracing their former selves as Jews. As you said, there are no Jews in His Church. The Bible clarifies by stating in 1 Corinthians 10:32, "Give no offense either to Jew or to Greek or to the Church of God." A Jew who truly repents and believes in Jesus Christ relinquishes their former status as Jew - no longer "under the Law" - and become part of the church - "under grace". Even Paul himself no longer calls himself a Jew, but states "For you have heard of my former manner of life in Judaism". Of course that doesn't mean that they magically stop being Jewish genetically - of which Paul also affirms - but that they transition from Judaism into Christianity

I don't doubt that Messianic Jews are pretty astute in Bible doctrine in certain areas, they would have too in order to understand what the OT says about the Messiah and recognize that Christ was He. This rap group and their music alone testifies to this fact, this of which I don't chastise. However, what they haven't done is given up being a Jew in order to want to be a Christian, which is an obstacle that Paul himself describes as tantamount to being unsaved. Romans, Galatians and a number of other of Pauline epistles alone - not to mention the epistles from others - are almost dedicated to clarifying the need to separate from Jewish tradition, law and belief, and convert unto Christianity, since the "old has become new". As Jesus Himself said, you do not put new wine into old wineskins.

This all may seem pretty bitter to you if you believe in some form of Covenant Theology, yet if you have any doubts as to what I've presented here is doctrine, please by all means throw everything you got at me. I would much rather that we both come to a successful conclusion about what the Bible says rather than me unintentionally breathing 'thus sayeth the Lord's down someone else. I mean only to exhort, encourage, and teach, but I know that I myself am also a student to the Word. So while I have confidence in what I believe based on what I have studied in the Bible, I understand that I do not grasp the Bible in its perfect entirety, so there is a room for error.

"What Messianic Jews, unfortunately, wish to do is believe Jesus is the Messiah, but do not wish to enjoin themselves with the Church"

Is that what these two rappers are doing?

I haven't met any Messianic Jews so far who refuse to mix with other churches. The Jewish Bible study leader I mentioned goes to a Baptist church, only he and his wife celebrate all the feasts.

What you say may be true for some of them, but not all of them, which is why I take people case by case. The Jews I know wish to minister the gospel to others, and some are specifically called to their own people. I support them all the way.

Hmm, I've always come across those that are willing to evangelize people into proselytes rather than Christians. While the Bible does note that there were some Jews in the early church that simply held strongly to their Jewish background while also accepting Church membership, Paul deems them "weaker brethren" because they still fall by holding to the "former traditions". He however embraced them with the care of consideration shown to that of a brother or sister in Christ, and as such they were (and are) saved.

What is of most concern, however, is the addressing of those Jews who infiltrated the churches and spread the idea that while Christ is the Messiah, you also have to hold to the Jewish law to be saved. It is this which Paul, James, Jude and the others were so vehement about, calling these individuals "antichrists" and "false prophets". Such persons never were saved, and lead others astray with their "false doctrine".

I never wish to assume that this rap group nor Messianic Jews in general are not saved. Most of them can be simply "Jewish Christians" more than Messianic Jews. Only one can tell by how they themselves are deemed saved, and how they evangelize such a gospel to others. Nothing incriminates this rap group to say that they fall into the unsaved category. Yet I merely address to take what they say with a grain of salt, because they're still persons that aren't solid in their doctrine - by far. It only takes even skimming through the epistles to realize their err. It'd be more spiritually profitable to listen to someone willing to take the Bible wholeheartedly and not reject part of it on the basis of heritage - even better, listen to the Bible itself :). Though I digress, they are still a pretty impressive rap group, and I haven't come across anything that the Bible doesn't really say in their lyrics.

And you are right, it really is a person-by-person consideration, but it'd be no different than the doubts I'd initially conceive about a person's salvation if they're a 'Christian' and call themselves a mormon. However, the Bible does make it ever clear we judge a tree by its fruits. You are certainly right, Taz.

There you go.

We can't keep targeting our own, VirG. Take people case by case and watch the fruit.

I'm still not certain they're saved, nor am I convinced they're unsaved. It takes more than listening to their music to ascertain that. Though yes, perhaps I can be a little paranoid about it, but a recent dramatic situation with someone close to me has caused me to become more cautious about who to discern is saved or not. If you believe they aren't when they are, you treat them wrong; and worse, if you believe they are when they aren't, you fail to evangelize to them, leaving them on a trip to hell with you being oblivious to their need. I just don't want to repeat that scenario, not for anyone. I failed God once on the matter, I don't wish it again. I care too much for them.

Don't be too down on yourself. God is still in control, VirG. The pressure is not on you to change people's heart but to speak the truth and be Christ to people. We can plant and water but only God can make it grow. Pray for them.

I'm not paranoid about it but I do give them a benefit of the doubt like with everyone. I haven't talked to them, but I do like what I see so far. They are teaching nothing wrong and like Paul said:

Philippians 1:15-18

15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

We don't know what their heart's motives are and we cannot prejudge something we do not know.
