Sebastian and Griselda by Tazi-san Sebastian and Griselda by Tazi-san
You win a million times over if you are in my generation and can remember this animated film. I remember it came on Disney Channel though it was Dutch produced. Animation wasn't all that but it had a nice little story.

Characters (C) Frank Fehmers 1990
Photo is mine (I was lazy, sry).

I simply had to add this to my favourites because it's so cute! This is a film I saw quite often as a child, but I didn't see it again until years later. The tape still worked! I like your take on Grizelda.

Oh my GOSH! This is one of those things that falls into the category of, "Possibly the earliest memory I have and it's so far back It seems more like a dream and I've always wondered if it was real." things. I NEED to know the film or show's name, PLEASE. For years when I was younger I'd always mention if anyone knew if this actually real and my brother would always tease me about it. All I can remember are the lyrics my brother used to make fun of the theme song. "Sebastian, He's the coolest bear in underwear. Sebastian....." and so on. anyways, you would know more about this show would you!?

Oh it's very real, no worries.

I think this is the opening theme and the film is called "Sebastian Star Bear: First Mission."

Oh My GOD, This is the first time I've seen these guys on dA, and coming from you, that's something else in its own right. I actually have a copy of that movie on VHS that I STILL have not seen to this day. You did a terrific job on these guys, and I don't really care much about a photo background as long as it fits the scene. Oh, and extra kudos for using your own photo. This one is definitely getting faved.

Since this is on the subject of children's shows of the olden days, I figured this would be relevant. My friend directed me to an intro/ending sequence for the longest running children's show in Russia, Spokoynoy Nochi, Malyshi. Despite this intro sequence being replaced by a claymation version shortly after due to complaints of children being "frightened", it landed itself - along with the rest of Yuriy Norshteyn's works - as one of the greatest animations of all time. It is not common I share things out of the blue like this, but with something this fantastic, I cannot resist the opportunity. The full item is here:

[link]

With a hi-res version of the second half (ending) here: [link]

Note that this is stop motion animation that is based on painting pieces of celluloid paper and overlaying them on layers of glass. It is much like South Park's animation, only with different paper medium and obviously far better quality.

Hope you enjoy this, and be careful that it doesn't put you to sleep from how serene and gorgeous it is.

If I recall correctly, this was back in the day when Disney Channel was a luxury and had to be purchased separately. Therefore my family didn't get this channel until I was around 8 years old. Shame what I missed. There were a lot of interesting items I saw back in Disney Channel's old days, such as a particular short that popped up every winter where this boy would traverse a winter wonderland to come to a castle made of ice, home to a beautiful snow queen. It was so ethereal that I never could forget it, yet without a title I am perplexed and lost, perhaps never to see it again.

There's plenty of other old cartoons of yore that I recall seeing in my early youth, like Puff the Magic Dragon, Rainbow Bright, Jetsons: the Movie; a few that come to mind, but certainly not the only. I was definitely saturated with viewing the results of wonderful talent in my youth, and I think it is part of why I have just strange and original ideas.

True, the old school stuff was certainly strange and original.

That story you're talking about sounds like the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (animated). Sure that wasn't it?

In my persistent nature, and the magic of Google, I've managed to find it. It was a Russian(?) animated short of The Snow Queen story by Hans Christian Anderson. The original animation was from 1981 but in 1992 was dubbed over by a narration from Sigourney Weaver. Some of it looks a little rusty, but from the clips I've found I am certain this is it. It doesn't have as much of a feeling of calm or solitude to it as I remember (perhaps that was my dreams putting it to use), but the music (especially the music), the animation and some of the scenes definitely retained that ethereal feel I remember back in my youth.

Some clips of it can be found here: [link]

I'm sure you've had moments where you remember bits of a movie or music that you've struggled long hours to find out what it was. This was one of mine :)

Yeah, and their character design is wonderful. When I saw this as a kid, I fell in love with the design of that dark-haired girl waving goodbye that you see in one of the clips. I definitely find that Russo-Finnish appearance just captivating.

O_O. Oh, in that case I think I should apologize. I download your pics (as well as other art of artists) in my laptop so that I could have an offline reference-collection.

Don't worry though, I don't claim any of your work (or the works of other peeps) as mine. I'd never do that. I do, after all, have my own art skills, yes, though "humble" they may be.

Plus I figured I'd give writing a try again, since my dad is a writer too, figured it be in the genes. And I was right.

Hey, I've been asking michelay some questions. I was wondering if I could ask you as well.

1) If Michelay is Katherine Holabird, could you be her Helen Craig?
(Katherine H. is the author of Angelina Ballerina, and Helen Craig is her illustrator).

I think Michelay has clamped down on me again because I kinda phrased my question the long way.

2) Could you give me some details of how your work was stolen? Was it commercially stolen, as in the stealer made money off of you? Or was it a recolor, etc? How did you feel about it?

Aaah, I guess if it's just for your hard drive, it's fine, bro.:-)

Really? Sounds great! It would be nice to see what you come up with.

1) When you put it that way, I guess I'm unofficially her illustrator though I always encourage her to do her own art too (I love her stuff).

Clamped down? How?

2) People will just copy my work and claim they did it or trace/recolour it and not cite the source material. I haven't lost any money to theft, not in my knowledge anyway.

She clamped down as in she haven't replied back.

I hope she goes pro, and takes you along as her Helen Craig. I might just do good on my offer of getting her contacts on yet another publisher, this time a Christian publisher and bookstore "OMF". I think my first attempt at getting her contacts (SCHOLASTIC) was a bust.

I get a lot done when writing. I can phrase scenes and emotions quite well considering that I am not a trained writer. That as opposed to my art-skills (which as I have told you, I have sabotaged because I could do "lustful" things with my art). That's funny because I can do "lustful" things with my writing too I guess, but I really haven't done that. Hmmm...with that said, all I am left with, as of right now, are the "technical" side of doing art. Stickman, Shapeman, Details, Clean-ruffs, and finally, Clean Ups. Not to mention digi-rendering. I'm sure you know that drill, and can skip or breeze through most of those steps.

Right now I am just writing fan-literature. Yes, its about Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps. Problem with that is I need resource materials (ie the DVDs). As per my research there are 3 DVDs, but two ("Just Dance" and "Love To Dance") have the same 5 episodes, but different release dates, and the other one, "Its Showtime!" has 2 episodes similar with "Just Dance" and "Love To Dance."

Confound it all! I just don't get that. Why would they do that? They released "Just Dance" last March if I'm right, and this Aug31 will be the release of "Love To Dance." What the heck is the difference? As per my research, its the "BONUS FEATURES." I'm like, "Huh? That's it?"

At least the classic 2D of Angelina B has come up with a good DVD compilation. Thought I don't know if its got all the classic 2D episodes.

Now, I don't want to do this, but I may just end up asking my cousin/s to torrent AB: The Next Steps for me until such a time that HIT Entertainment comes out with a decent DVD collection without any overlapping episodes. Plus, I'd like to have the original UK voice cast and the newer US voice cast. I didn't know that one of the characters was FRENCH!
